Mr Mahi Habib

Director, Centre of Space Technologies, Algerian Space Agency

Habib Mahi is an Algerian Expert in Earth observation and its applications. He completed his engineering degree and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sciences and Technologies of Oran, Mohamed Boudiaf (USTO, MB) Algeria, in 1994 and 2014, respectively. In addition, he obtained a Master’s degree in Spatial Techniques and its Applications from the National Center of Spatial Techniques (Centre National des Techniques Spatiales, CNTS) in 2004.

Dr. Mahi’s career has been marked by substantial contributions to Earth observation. He is a senior researcher in the Earth Observation Department at the Algerian Center of Spatial Techniques (Centre des Techniques Spatiales, CTS). He is focusing on the development of advanced image feature extraction and classification algorithms for remotely sensed data. His research has made strides in advancing the field in Algeria.

From 2014 till 2016, he served as the Head of the Earth Observation Department at the Algerian Center of Spatial Techniques, one of the five main operational entities of the Algerian Space Agency, where he spearheaded research initiatives and enhanced departmental capabilities. Since 2016, he is the Director of the Algerian Center of Spatial Techniques. As Manger, He contributed to the establishment and management of the Center's R&D projects and to the development of the CTS's strategic orientation plan. He is also actively involved in several national research projects and holds positions on various national boards and committees. His work demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the advancement of space technology and the support of Algeria's Earth observation objectives.
